MEXICO – Refugees from third countries entering the United States from Mexico will be sent back immediately. This is one of the conditions of the new migration agreement between Washington and Mexico.
Mexican authorities published the full text of the Treaty between Mexico and the United States, regulating migration issues. Earlier journalists photographed a document that showed them from afar US President Donald Trump and quoted a few phrases from it. The new Treaty is an addition to the agreement signed on June 7 and contains a list of measures agreed by both parties.
The document states that the United States and Mexico will “immediately” start consultations on the final terms of the bilateral agreement, including on the allocation of responsibility for the consideration of claims of migrants for refugee status. Thus, both States will process applications for asylum of third-country nationals who have crossed “the territory of one country to arrive in the neighboring.” Refugees from third countries entering the United States from Mexico will be sent back immediately.
Under an agreement concluded in early June, Mexico agreed to deploy 6,000 US National Guard soldiers to strengthen its southern border and to strengthen its policy of returning migrants to their homeland.
