A parade was held on Red Square in Moscow in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted every veteran present before the parade, shaking his hand.
In his speech, he declared the need “to uphold the truth about the Great War”.
“The main burden of the struggle against Nazism fell on the Soviet people,” Putin said.
Russia is open to dialogue on creating a common security system in the world, the Russian leader said.
“We also know in the face of the challenges that the planet faces today, in a special way we feel what a person is of the greatest value. His dreams, joy, hopes, peaceful, calm, creative life, ”Putin said.
This year, the parade is of particular importance to Putin, since a nationwide vote on constitutional amendments will take place in Russia in a week, which is expected to enable him to remain in power after 2024 when his current term expires.
