Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka may move Australian Ashley Barty from the first position in the WTA rankings after the tournament in Miami (USA), held from March 23 to April 4. This can happen if the Japanese woman wins the title, and Barty does not make it to the final.

Barty is the reigning champion of the tournament. In the final of 2019, she beat Czech Karolina Plishkova with 7: 6 (7: 1), 6: 3 in two sets.

At the moment, Barty has 9186 points, while Osaka has 7835. After last year’s points burned out for the victory, Barty will have 8196 points. If Osaka wins in Miami, she will have 8,770 points (+ 1,000 for a win and – 55 points, these are deductions for participation in 2019). That’s more than Barty’s after the deductions.

If Osaka wins the title in Miami, Barty’s only chance to stay at the top of the rankings will be: make it to the final. Then she will receive 650 points, and the deduction will be 350 points. In this case, its total in the rating will be 8836.
