An international research group led by NUST MISIS has developed a new composite nanomaterial based on iron, cobalt and nickel with controlled magnetic properties. The resulting material can be used to protect money and securities from counterfeiting. The study was published in the journal Nanomaterials.

Today, the study of magnetic nanomaterials with controlled magnetic characteristics is one of the most promising directions. Due to their small size and excellent magnetic and electrical properties, they have a wide range of potential applications – from mobile devices to space technologies.

The new nanocomposite based on iron, cobalt and nickel was obtained by chemical deposition followed by a reduction process. This method is simple and, most importantly, it allows you to control the properties of the product at every stage of its production. In addition, it will make it possible to obtain chemically pure nanopowders with a given composition, shape, and dispersion.

The new composite also has a high coercive force value. This makes the technology applicable, for example, to magnetic rubbers and various magnetically coupled devices. Another possible application is to protect money and securities from counterfeiting.

“Now more and more attention is paid to the protection of people and devices from the effects of magnetic radiation. Developments in the field of creating flexible, thin, relatively transparent metal-polymer composite materials for protection from electromagnetic radiation are also very relevant. The use of a material with controlled properties as a filler will make it possible to make a breakthrough in this area, ”added Yuri Konyukhov, Deputy Head of the Department of Functional Nanosystems and High-Temperature Materials, NUST MISIS.
