New York state legislators allowed the refusal of the impeachment procedure of Governor Cuomo

The decision will mean that Cuomo will not face a ban on participating in the elections.

The New York State Assembly, the majority of which is made up of Democrats, suspends the investigation against Governor Andrew Cuomo, based on which he can be impeached.

This was stated by the speaker of the lower house of the state legislative Assembly, Carl Heastie. According to him, there is no longer any need for further investigation since its purpose was to determine “whether Governor Cuomo should remain in office.” At the same time, the governor already announced his resignation.

The decision to refuse impeachment will mean that Cuomo will not be deprived of the right to participate in elections in the future.

Recall that the governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, resigned on Tuesday after an investigation confirmed allegations of sexual harassment made against him by 11 women.

According to the investigation, Cuomo violated U.S. laws by sexually harassing women. Cuomo was accused of touching women without their consent, kissing them, and making obscene comments.

In a 20-minute televised address, the governor said that he had done nothing wrong but said that he took “full responsibility” for the offense caused to women by his unsuccessful attempts to show tenderness or joke.

The decision on the possible rejection of impeachment caused criticism from women who accused Cuomo of harassment and from some Republicans and Democrats of the state.

Lindsey Boylan, a former Cuomo aide, called the state Assembly’s decision “unfair.”

“The public should know the extent of violations committed by the governor and possible crimes,” Boylan said.

A member of the New York State Legislature, Democrat Ron Kim, said that he would publish a legal justification for the need for impeachment proceedings.

According to the state constitution, until the end of Cuomo’s term, which expires in December 2022, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat from western New York, will serve as governor. She will be the first woman to hold this post.
