Nobel Prize-winning chemist Eiichi Negishi dies

Japanese scientist Eiichi Negishi, a Nobel laureate in chemistry, has died at the age of 85, according to a statement on the website of the American University of Purdue (Indiana), where the scientist worked.

Negishi won the Nobel Prize in 2010, along with American scientist Richard Heck and another Japanese scientist, Akira Suzuki. Scientists have developed new methods for the synthesis of complex organic compounds.

Eiichi Negishi was born in 1935 in Changchun.
