The supercomputer will start working this year.

The American company Nvidia has introduced a technology based on which it will launch the world’s fastest supercomputer Eos. This is reported in the company’s release published on Tuesday.

“Nvidia Eos is expected to provide AI (artificial intelligence) computing performance at 18.4 exaflops, which is four times faster than the Fugaku supercomputer in Japan, which is currently the fastest system in the world,” the statement said.

According to the company, the supercomputer will start working this year. It is specified that the computing power of Eos will help researchers studying climate science, digital biology and the future of artificial intelligence.

FLOPS (Floating-point Operations Per Second) is an off-system unit used to measure computer performance. It shows how many floating point operations a given computing system performs per second. The unit of measurement with the prefix “peta-” is obtained by multiplying the original unit by the number 10 to the 15th power, that is, by one quadrillion. A unit with the prefix “exa-,” in turn, is obtained by multiplying by 10 to the 18th power, that is, by one quintillion.
