According to police, the shooting occurred on the territory of a hospital complex in Tulsa.
At least four people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting that occurred Wednesday at a hospital complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma, local police said. According to law enforcement agencies, the suspect in the attack is also among the dead.
Police officers are still working on the campus of St. Francis Hospital, the Tulsa Police Department said on its Twitter account.
Captain Richard Muhlenberg told ABC that the police received a call about a man with a rifle who was on the second floor of the hospital building, and that “it turned into an active shooting situation.” By the time the police arrived at the scene, “they found that several people had received bullet wounds. Two were dead,” Muhlenberg added.
“We also found a man whom we believe was the shooter because he had a long–barreled rifle and a pistol with him,” Muhlenberg added.
The circumstances of the death of the person suspected of the attack have not yet been clarified.
The White House said that President Joe Biden had been informed about the shooting and that he was “closely monitoring the situation and has already appealed to the state and municipal authorities with an offer of support.”
The Tulsa shooting followed two mass shootings in May that shocked Americans and reignited the gun control debate. Last week, an armed criminal killed 19 children and two elementary school teachers in Uvalda, Texas. Earlier in May, a gunman killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
