It became a shade of blue with the addition of a purple-red undertone, called Very Peri.
Specialists of the American Pantone Color Institute have identified the main color of 2022. It became a shade of blue with the addition of a purple-red undertone; it was reported on Thursday on the organization’s website.
“Combining the qualities of blue, but at the same time possessing a violet-red hue, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri demonstrates an energetic, joyful mood and a dynamic presence that encourages bold creativity and imagery,” the words of the institute’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman are quoted in the message.
Pantone noted that as people come out of isolation, people’s perceptions and standards change, and real and virtual lives begin to intersect in a new way. “With the development of gaming trends, the growing popularity of the metaverse and the rise of the creative community in the digital space, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri illustrates how <…> color trends in the digital world manifest themselves in the real world and vice versa,” the press release states.
Pantone Color Institute is a research center of Pantone company engaged in experimental work with color and its influence on various industries (fashion, printing, interior design, advertising, cinema, etc.). The Institute has been defining the main color since 2000. In 2021, the organization chose two main colors of the year at once – deep gray Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and bright yellow Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating.
The Pantone Institute is not a trendsetter in terms of trending shades. It does not set trends, but only collects annual data and reflects them in its report. This is a kind of guide to the most popular and important shade of the upcoming 2022. According to many experts, it is the most authoritative, internationally recognized source of information on colors and shades.
