The first Stanley Cup qualifying round match between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Montreal Canadiens took place in Toronto (Canada) at the Scotiabank Arena. The meeting ended with the victory of the nominal guests in overtime with a score of 3: 2.

Thanks to scored goals by Esperi Kotkaniemi and Nick Suzuki, Montreal was leading 2-0 by the middle of the match, but failed to maintain their advantage, conceding two goals from Pittsburgh players Sidney Crosby and Brian Rast. The main time ended in a draw – 2: 2. In overtime, Montreal’s players were stronger, with Jeff Petrie scoring the decisive goal.
