Defense Minister Blaszczak called the purchase “a response to challenges” in the field of international security
Poland will buy 250 American tanks as part of a deal worth about $ 6 billion in an effort to strengthen its defense, the head of the Polish military department said.
Like many other Eastern European countries, Poland is alarmed by Russia’s behavior since the annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea in 2014, which it considers increasingly assertive.
“Of course, this is a response to the challenges we face in terms of international security,” Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said at a press conference. – Our task is to deter a potential aggressor. We all know where this aggressor is located.”
Blaszczak said that Poland will spend about $ 6 billion on the purchase of Abrams tanks and an accompanying logistics and training package, as well as on the modernization of infrastructure and the purchase of ammunition.
