Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized the World Health Organization’s report on the origins of the coronavirus on Twitter and accused its authors of supporting China’s “disinformation campaign.”
“This is why I recommended that the US leave WHO,” he added.
According to the diplomat, the most likely source of COVID-19 is the Institute of Virology in Wuhan. Pompeo also suggested that WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is collaborating with Chinese President Xi Jinping to allegedly help the Chinese leader hide the truth about the spread of the virus.
The former US Secretary of State did not provide any evidence of the “conspiracy” between Gebreyesus and Xi Jinping.
The WHO on Tuesday published the full version of the report of the international group of experts of the organization on a visit to Wuhan to identify the origin of the coronavirus, in which it called the leak of COVID-19 from the laboratory “extremely unlikely.” The head of the organization also noted that experts did not find the virus’s source and urged to continue the search. Nevertheless, as follows from the report, the coronavirus could be transmitted to humans from bats through another animal.
