Pompeo discussed the security issues with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania

During the talks, the US Secretary of State and Linas Linkevicius discussed the security of 5G networks and the situation in Belarus.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met in Washington with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius to discuss regional security and bilateral cooperation, the State Department said.

The report says that Pompeo and Linkevicius opened the meeting by signing a Memorandum of understanding on the security of 5G networks, after which they discussed further steps to address vulnerabilities in communication networks related to national security.

They also discussed the situation in Belarus, which is gripped by mass protests against President Alexander Lukashenko.

“The Secretary of state expressed gratitude to Lithuania for its leadership in protecting the independence and territorial integrity of Belarus and the democratic rights of its people,” state Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said.

“Secretary Pompeo thanked Lithuania for fulfilling its obligations to NATO, including spending 2 percent of GDP on defense and contributing to international security efforts in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Strait of Hormuz,” she continued. – The Secretary of State again thanked Lithuania for banning Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.”
