Washington’s sanctions this week against Russian and Chinese companies are related to deliveries as part of Iran’s missile program, US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said.

“We have imposed sanctions against Chengdu Best New Materials and Zibo Elim Trade in China, as well as against the group “Nizko,” also known as Nil Fam Khazar and Santers Holding, and “Elekon” in Russia for transferring sensitive technologies and goods to Iran’s missile program. These measures are part of our response to Iran’s malign activities,” Pompeo said in a written statement.

The Secretary of state added that the new sanctions, imposed for two years, include restrictions on US government purchases, state aid from Washington, and impose export restrictions.

Earlier, the State Department stated that these sanctions are provided for by the law on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction against Iran, North Korea, and Syria.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, commenting on Washington’s decision, called these sanctions a discriminatory step to undermine their economic potential.
