Producers chose the rapper to play Chuck Berry in the Buddy Holly biopic

American rapper Nelly will play Chuck Berry in a biopic about musician Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash at 22, Variety reports.

The picture will be called “Clear Lake” (the city in Iowa, near which Holly tragically died on February 3, 1959). It will discuss how rock and roll were born in the United States in the 1950s and how it influenced civil rights in America.

In addition to Nelly, the film will also feature Tom Hanks ‘ son Colin (who will play producer of Holly) and Diane Guerrero (who will play his wife). Ruairi O’Connor (The Spanish Princess, The Morning show) will play the role of Buddy Holly.

The film is directed by Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy).
