The U.S. President has never discussed with the department investigations concerning any of his family members, said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
American President Joe Biden believes that the United States Department of Justice will independently decide whether to appoint a special prosecutor to conduct a possible trial concerning the son of the head of the U.S. administration. This was stated by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki at a briefing.
“Firstly, the president has never discussed with the U.S. Department of Justice investigations concerning any of his family members. He stated this during the election campaign and will continue to follow this [principle]. Therefore, I would refer you to the U.S. Department of Justice for questions about any further actions they will take. They would have made such decisions independently,” Psaki said. So she answered a journalist’s question about whether the American leader would support the appointment of a special prosecutor to conduct proceedings in the case of his son Hunter Biden. The journalist drew attention to the fact that recently there have been new publications in the media concerning the son of the U.S. president.
Psaki was also asked to clarify whether Biden still insists that he has never discussed with his son issues related to the latter’s foreign business. “Yes,” she said.
Earlier, the American media published data from a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden. From the correspondence submitted, which was conducted by Hunter Biden, in particular, it followed that he could arrange for a representative of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings, whose board he was on, to meet with his father at a time when the latter was vice president of the United States. Biden Sr., while holding this post, called for the dismissal of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin, who launched an investigation into Burisma.
The Washington Post reported in March that Hunter Biden allegedly received almost $5 million from the Chinese energy company CEFC.
Donald Trump, who was previously president of the United States, has repeatedly accused Joe Biden of lying and involvement in corruption. According to the Republican, “Biden’s repeated statements that he never spoke to Hunter about his business ties were lies.” Trump called Biden “a corrupt politician who cannot apply for the presidency.”
