The U.S. authorities are closely monitoring the deterioration of the security situation in Afghanistan, and airstrikes are continuing to support the Afghan armed forces. This was stated on Wednesday at a regular briefing for journalists by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
During the briefing, she was asked to comment on information that appeared in the media that, according to U.S. intelligence, representatives of the radical Taliban movement might seize the capital of the country, Kabul, in the coming months.
“We do not rely on anonymous assessments; we rely on intelligence assessments made by the U.S. government. <…> We are closely monitoring the deterioration of the security situation in some parts of the country, but, in our opinion, no specific outcome is inevitable. We will continue to coordinate airstrikes to support the Afghan forces,” she said.
