Qualcomm Technologies has announced the Flight RB5 5G platform, the world’s first fifth-generation (5G) mobile unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) solution. As the manufacturer notes, this is the world’s first drone platform with an artificial intelligence system.

In fact, it is a reference platform that third-party developers and manufacturers can use. They are offered three sets of software for neural processing, computer vision and multimedia applications.

Qualcomm’s novelty is based on the QRB5165 processor with eight Kryo 585 processing cores. Four of them are Kryo Gold, and four are Kryo Silver, all operating at a clock frequency of 2.84 GHz. The platform also includes the Adreno 650 graphics accelerator.

The Spectra 480 image processor supports cameras up to 200 million pixels. Moreover, it is possible to use up to seven cameras simultaneously, which makes it possible to create advanced drones with a self-driving system. It also has the ability to record ultra-high-definition 8K footage at 30 frames per second.

The drone not only supports 5G but also WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It also uses 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.0 flash memory. The authors of the development note that in the process of operation, several drones can maintain communication and exchange information between them.

The Flight RB5 5G platform is already available to order, and deliveries will begin during the third quarter of 2021. The developer kit will be available in the fourth quarter of 2021. A $ 1000 deposit is required to pre-order, and the full price is $ 3999 for the non-5G version and $ 4999 for the 5G version.
