Roskomnadzor decided to block Facebook in Russia in response to the restriction of access to Russian media. This is reported on the agency’s website.
According to it, since October 2020, 26 cases of discrimination of the Russian media by the social network have been recorded.
“In recent days, the social network has restricted access to the accounts of: Zvezda TV channel, RIA Novosti news agency, Sputnik, Russia Today, information resources Lenta.ru and Newspaper.ru,” the message reads.
These restrictions are prohibited by Federal Law No. 272-FZ “On Measures to Influence Persons Involved in Violations of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens of the Russian Federation”, adopted, inter alia, to prevent violations of the key principles of free dissemination of information and unhindered access of Russian users to Russian media on foreign Internet platforms.
Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry, recognized Facebook as involved in the violation of the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens due to restrictions on official accounts of Russian media.
