Russia prematurely terminates its powers in the UN Human Rights Council.

This was announced on April 7 by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry

In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia considers today’s resolution of the UN General Assembly on the suspension of Russia’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council as an illegal politically motivated step aimed at demonstratively punishing a sovereign UN member state pursuing an independent foreign and domestic policy.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reports that Russia prematurely terminates its powers in the UN Human Rights Council from today.

The ministry noted that this decision does not mean a deviation from the international obligations of the Russian Federation in the field of human rights.

Russia will continue to strengthen constructive dialogue on human rights and involve all interested parties in the process of collective decision-making in the interests of all groups of countries.
