As planned, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 3 flagship foldable smartphone as part of the Galaxy Unpacked launch. The third generation brought IPX8 water resistance, a new stylus and several other improvements.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with a main 7.6 ”Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. One of the features is the location of the front camera under the display, for the first time in Samsung smartphones. It is built on the basis of a 4-megapixel sensor with 2.0-micron pixels, and the optical aperture value is f / 1.8. The sub-screen camera is focused on video communication, but for selfies there is a separate 10 megapixel (f / 2.2) module, which is installed on the back of the case, in the hole of the additional screen. The rear panel has a 6.2 ”diagonal. It is covered by Gorilla Glass Victus. 120Hz refresh rates are also supported.
At the heart of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the Snapdragon 888 mobile processor with 12 GB of RAM in the top memory modification. Autonomy is provided by a 4400 mAh battery with 25-watt USB PD wired charging. There is also 11W wireless charging and 4.5W reversible charging.
In the main camera of the novelty, there are three 12 megapixel modules. The main one has an aperture of f / 1.8 and a 1 / 1.76″ sensor with 1.8-micron pixels. The telephoto lens provides 2x optical zoom and looks outdated after the same module was used back in 2018 in the Galaxy Note 9. There are OIS and Dual Pixel.
Users will be able to use the S Pen Pro or the new S Pen Fold Edition with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The latter is designed specifically for a bendable smartphone. It is more compact and does not have Bluetooth, but it can be used to control the device “over the air”. By the way, there is no pen opening in the flagship’s case.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be available in Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver. The built-in storage capacity is 256 GB or 512 GB. Price starts in Europe starts at € 1,799. The cost for Ukraine will be announced additionally.
