WASHINGTON – Senator Bernie Sanders made it clear that he does not intend to withdraw from the Democratic presidential race, despite a serious lag behind Joe Biden in the primaries.
“Donald Trump must be defeated, and I will do everything in my power to make it happen. On Sunday night, during the first one- on- one debate, Americans will be able to see which candidate is best suited to achieve this goal,” Sanders said, speaking in his hometown of Burlington, Vermont.
Sanders lags far behind Biden in the number of delegates who will have to nominate a presidential candidate at the Democratic Convention in July.
Sanders conceded defeat in Tuesday’s primaries in some states.
“Our campaign won the ideological debate, but we’re losing the electability debate,” Sanders acknowledged.
“Yesterday was not the best day for our company in terms of the number of delegates. Yesterday it became clear that although we are still losing the race for delegates, but we are winning on important issues that will determine the future of our country,” Sanders said.
“Today, I say to the Democratic establishment: to win in the future, you have to win over voters who represent the future of our country, you have to talk about issues that are important to them,” Sanders said, noting that he is supported by young people, and Biden is mostly people over 65.
