The leader of the Democrats in the upper house of Congress called on colleagues to immediately approve a new package of assistance to Ukraine.
The leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, today called on senators to approve the package of assistance to Ukraine proposed by the House of Representatives.
Recall that the lower house of Congress overwhelmingly approved a package of assistance to Ukraine in the amount of more than $ 40 billion.
At the end of April, President Biden asked Congress to approve additional assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $ 33 billion, but lawmakers decided to increase the volume of military and humanitarian aid.
Schumer called on the Senate to act immediately.
“Time is running out, as President Biden has made it clear that the aid provided by Congress a few months ago will soon end,” Schumer said. “Because we acted quickly and decisively a few months ago, we have to do it again very, very soon, and I will make sure that it becomes a priority for the Senate.”
The Senate majority leader stressed that Congress bears a moral responsibility for supporting Ukraine.
“The struggle they are waging is a struggle between democracy and authoritarianism, and we dare not back down or delay quick action to help our friends in need,” Schumer concluded.
