Researchers at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) have created a “fabric” for clothing with NFC wireless connectivity.
The authors of the new work have created clothes in which you can exchange digital data in the process of a simple handshake or greeting gestures.
During the research, they used NFC wireless technology. Under normal conditions, it works at a distance of several centimeters, for example, this is visible when you make a payment using your smartphone.
The researchers used this configuration and matched materials to increase the NFC communication range up to 120 cm. This is an antenna system that looks like a metal fabric: it can be placed in regular textiles. This solution will help extend NFC communication to any garment.
The authors note that wireless technology and extended range technology do not require power for receivers and transmitters, and also operate on the basis of electromagnetic induction.
These garments are comfortable to wear as they remain flexible. And, at the same time, it is a secure solution for multi-site wireless networks on the human body. With it, you can, for example, connect all the functions of wearable gadgets and sensors.
