Scientists have found that pregnant women are twice as likely to suffer from severe COVID-19 as other young women. The corresponding study was published in the scientific journal BMJ.
Experts from the University of Birmingham analyzed the results of 192 studies on the impact of coronavirus on pregnant women and children.
According to scientists, pregnant women were 2.1 times more likely to be in intensive care because of coronavirus infection. Their risk of needing ventilation was 2.6 times higher than that of other women.
It is noted that the risk of severe COVID-19 is higher among representatives of ethnic minorities and those who suffer from chronic diseases.
