Astronomers who analyzed the images transmitted to Earth by the Solar Orbiter noted that high-detail photographs of the night side of Venus are much more valuable for science. But sunlight, which is brightly reflected from the planet, made it impossible for the Solar Orbiter to take such images.
Two stars are visible next to bright Venus – Omicron Tauri (right) and Xi Tauri (left). Xi Taurus is a hierarchical quadruple system in the constellation Taurus. It consists of three type B blue-white main sequence dwarfs. Two stars form an eclipsing binary system and orbit each other every 7.15 days.
The Solar Orbiter has photographed Venus on its second flyby. It is assumed that the device will make at least six more approaches to the second planet of the solar system.
The Solar Orbiter (SolO) is an automated spacecraft for solar exploration, the first medium-class mission of the Cosmic Vision program. The purpose of the mission is to conduct high-resolution research of the Sun and its inner heliosphere.
