Sony is experiencing difficulties with the production of PlayStation 5 consoles and has lowered its production forecast for the current fiscal year. If the company expected to collect 16 million devices between April 2021 and March 2022, now this figure is about 15 million.

Sony has publicly predicted 14.8 million PS5 consoles will be sold this fiscal year, so while this is not a significant downgrade, it shows how limited supply will be for the foreseeable future. The 16 million unit figure would allow Sony to meet this target and secure additional inventory for next year.

Sony is forecasting 22.6 million PS5 sales in the fiscal year beginning April 2022, but its manufacturing partners reportedly believe that target will not be easy to achieve. In other words, don’t expect to find it easier to buy a PS5 any time soon. Rather, the opposite is true.
