Sotheby’s and Christie’s cancel auctions dedicated to Russian art due to the situation in Ukraine. This is reported by The Art Newspaper with reference to representatives of the houses.

The events were to take place in London in the summer.

“Sotheby’s will not hold auctions dedicated to Russian art in June,” the newspaper quotes the auction representative.

Russian art sales of this auction house reached the sum of 17.7 million pounds sterling during the “Russian Week” in London in November 2021, the publication recalled.

According to The Art Newspaper, within an hour after Sotheby’s statement, Christie’s followed suit.

“We have decided to cancel our June auction,” a representative of the organization told the publication.

The newspaper explains that both auction houses have stated that they follow the rules regarding sanctions prohibiting transactions with a number of individuals and companies.
