Surfer dies after shark attack in Australia

A man has died in a shark attack off the coast of the Australian state of New South Wales, the state ambulance service said on Twitter.

According to a statement from the service, medical staff responded to reports that a shark had bitten a man near Tuncurry Beach.

“Despite the best efforts of paramedics and passers-by at the scene of the incident, the man could not be resuscitated,” the statement said.

According to the state police, the man was attacked while surfing.
