The Swiss canton of Geneva is completing the calculation of the cost of holding a meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin, and Joe Biden; the total amount may exceed $ 10 million, the head of the press service of the regional leadership, Emmanuel Cuneo told.
“The final calculation of the expenses of the canton for holding the Russia-USA summit is being completed and will be sent very soon to the Federal authorities, with whom the Canton of Geneva is working closely on this issue,” he said.
Cuneo added that earlier, the State Council of Geneva announced preliminary data on spending on the summit in response to an urgent request from the deputy from the Party of Socialists Silvan Tevoz.
According to preliminary estimates, which were published in the media, the implementation of security during the summit cost 5,176 million francs. This is spending on the work of the cantonal police, security services from neighboring cantons, their accommodation and transport, without taking into account the involvement of the military and civil protection services. The Federal Police will take over part of these expenses.
Another 222,658 francs were spent on protocol services; 518 thousand was worth compensating for the downtime of one day of work of various organizations that were located in the security perimeter of the summit. Here, part of the expenses will also be taken over by the federal authorities.
The Federal Department for Foreign Affairs will take over the 3 million francs that were spent on transportation and catering for journalists who covered the summit.
“As you understand, these are all just preliminary estimates; the final data may well increase by 10-15%. When the calculations are completed, they will be sent to the Federal Authorities at the end of September,” Cuneo added.
