Earlier, Greg Abbott was vaccinated against COVID-19.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott has fallen ill with COVID-19, his office said.

“Today, Governor Greg Abbott tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. The governor took tests every day, and today the result was positive for the first time,” the governor’s office said in a statement.

“Governor Abbott has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, is in good health, and is currently experiencing no symptoms. Everyone with whom the governor was in close contact today has been notified,” the statement says.

Abbott is isolated in the governor’s mansion. His office said that the test of the governor’s wife, Cecilia Abbott, was negative.
