On this indicator, the Airbus A320 surpassed it. Over the past few years, Airbus has been closing the gap from Boeing in terms of sales, and it managed to get ahead amid the problems of the American Corporation with the 737 MAX family.
Boeing 737 fell from the first line of the ranking of the world’s best-selling aircraft. It was surpassed by the A320, produced by the Airbus consortium. The main cause was two accidents with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in Indonesia and Ethiopia. About it writes Business Insider regarding reports on sales of liners.
As the newspaper notes, the last 55 years Boeing 737 was the best-selling aircraft in the world, but by the end of October, Airbus A320 surpassed it. According to reports, Boeing at the time received an order for 15,136 aircraft of the 737 families, and Airbus signed contracts for the sale of 15,193 Airliners of the A320 family. This contributed to the crisis, which began at Boeing in April this year after the company suspended flights 737 MAX amid two disasters.
Over the past few years, Airbus has been closing the gap on Boeing in terms of sales, especially after introducing the newest version of the A320neo, which began production before the Boeing 737 MAX. However, at the end of 2018, the Airbus A320 lagged behind the Boeing 737 in sales by more than 400 aircraft.
In July, Boeing reported a reduction in deliveries of 737 family aircraft in the second quarter of this year more than doubled compared to the first. In total, the manufacturer has sent 239 commercial aircraft to customers since the beginning of the year, and only 90 of them were delivered in the second quarter. While in the first three months of the year Boeing delivered 89 Boeing 737s to airlines, from April to July the Corporation sent only 24 such Airliners to customers, the company’s report said.
