The Brazilian Foreign Ministry earlier issued a statement calling for avoiding escalation in eastern Ukraine and implementing the Minsk agreements.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Franca on Friday discussed by phone with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken the “acute security crisis in Ukraine” and the discussion on this issue within the UN Security Council. This is reported by the press service of the Brazilian diplomatic department.

“The ministers discussed what can be done to complete the current military operations, restore peace and stop further suffering of civilians from the consequences of the conflict,” the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said in a Twitter post. According to the Foreign Ministry, the conversation took place on the initiative of the American side.

Earlier, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling for avoiding escalation in eastern Ukraine and implementing the Minsk agreements. It was emphasized separately that the solution of this crisis should take place “taking into account the legitimate interests of Russia and Ukraine in the field of security and respect for the UN Charter.”
