The resolution points to systematic cases of premeditated murders.

The House of Commons of Canada unanimously recognized Russia’s actions as genocide of the Ukrainian people, La Presse newspaper reported.

The resolution states that Russia committed “mass atrocities” and “systematic cases of deliberate killings of civilians in Ukraine” during the war.

Heather McPherson, a member of the House of Commons of Canada and the author of the document, said that recognizing Russia’s actions as genocide is the first step.

She called on the government to tighten sanctions against Russia and increase the volume of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

“We need to fund the International Criminal Court and do more to make sure it has all the tools and resources necessary to investigate and bring to justice those behind this genocide,” McPherson said.
