The chief infectious disease specialist of the United States, Anthony Fauci, does not believe that the country is waiting for a new lockdown in light of the spread of the delta coronavirus strain, but stressed that the situation with infections “will worsen.”
“I don’t think that we will find new lockdowns. I believe that we have enough (vaccinated) people in the country – although not enough to suppress this outbreak – to avoid being in the position we were in last winter. However, the situation will worsen,” Fauci said in an interview with ABC News.
Thus, he actually confirmed the conclusions of the White House, which said on Friday that the US administration would not re-impose strict restrictions, despite the spread of the delta strain of coronavirus.
On the eve of the Washington Post newspaper, citing experts published a forecast according to which the daily increase in cases of coronavirus infection in the United States may grow to 140-300 thousand in August. In the last week, the average daily incidence rate in the country has increased by 60%, experts say.
The most serious situation is observed in the US state of Florida, where, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an anti–record for the daily number of infected people was registered on Sunday – 21,683 people.
