The American missile destroyer Barry passed through the Strait on September 17.
The Armed forces of the People’s Republic of China consider the passage of the American missile destroyer Barry through the Taiwan Strait unacceptable since such actions pose a threat to security in the region. This was stated on Saturday by the official representative of the eastern military district of the People’s Liberation Army of China, Shi Yi.
“On September 17, the destroyer Barry passed through the Taiwan Strait, openly setting a precedent for excitement,” the statement published on the page of the military administrative unit on the WeChat social network said. “The troops of the eastern district will maintain a high degree of combat readiness; resolutely protect the state sovereignty and security of China, peace, and stability in the region.”
As specified in the statement, Beijing is dissatisfied with the frequent cases of the appearance of U.S. ships in this water area and considers them as a provocation. “This is convincing proof that the United States is a destabilizing factor in the Taiwan Strait, creating a security threat,” the statement says.
