The European Union refuses to comply with Russia’s demands to pay for gas in rubles, Free News writes, citing a statement by the official representative of the European Commission (EC) Eric Mamer.

He explained that Brussels participated in the discussion of the issue by the G7 group of countries, and the positions, respectively, coincide. According to him, the heads of the ministries of energy of these states “rejected the demands” of the Russian side. “As for us, we said that deliveries should be carried out using dollars or euros,” the EC representative explained.

The decision to convert into rubles the payment for gas supplied by Russia to “unfriendly countries” was announced earlier in March by President Vladimir Putin. Representatives of European countries, reacting to these statements, have already indicated that a different currency is indicated in the contracts.
