The European Union has warned the Taliban of non-recognition and isolation in the event of a seizure of power

The head of European diplomacy called for an end to violence and the resumption of peace talks.

The European Union has warned the Taliban that in the event of a violent seizure of power in Afghanistan, the movement will face international isolation.

“If power is seized by force and the Islamic Emirate is restored, the Taliban will face non – recognition, isolation, lack of international support, and the prospect of continued conflict and prolonged instability in Afghanistan,” EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell said.

“The European Union is committed to continuing its partnership with the Afghan people and to support them. However, support will be provided only if a peaceful and inclusive solution is reached and the fundamental rights of all Afghans, including women, youth, and minorities, are respected,” Borrell added.

He also noted the need for an “immediate end to violence” and called on the Taliban to resume peace talks with the government in Kabul.
