The EU sky may be closed to any aircraft related to Russia, said the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“We are closing the airspace for the Russians. We propose a ban on all Russian-owned, Russian-registered and Russian-controlled aircraft. These planes will not be able to land, take off or fly over the territory of the European Union. This will apply to any aircraft: personal, charter or otherwise under the control of a Russian legal entity or private person.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the EU summit in Brussels.

The EC also proposed to ban all transactions with the Central Bank and freeze its assets in the EU. In addition, important Russian banks will be disconnected from the SWIFT system.

In addition, according to von der Leyen, the “Kremlin’s media machine” will be banned in the European Union. The head of the EC clarified that we are talking about RT, Sputnik and their subsidiaries. She called this step unprecedented.

As EU High Representative for International Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said at a press conference, today the foreign ministers of the EU countries will give “political approval to the package of measures described by Chairman Leyen.”

“This will pave the way for the rapid adoption of all necessary acts,” he added.
