First Deputy US Secretary of State Wendy Sherman discussed strategic partnership in Mongolia on the eve of her visit to China, State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
Sherman met with the speaker of the Great State Hural – Parliament – Gombojavyn_Zandanshatar, as well as with Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg and other officials.
“The Deputy Secretary of State stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between the United States and Mongolia and discussed how to strengthen Mongolia’s democratic institutions and sovereignty, as well as diversify its economy,” Price said.
In addition, Sherman met with representatives of the armed forces and thanked Mongolia for participating in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan.
She also visited the Choijin Lama Temple-Museum in Ulaanbaatar and met with LGBT activists in Mongolia.
