TOKYO – Almost 32 thousand police officers will provide security and keep order during The G20 summit, which will be held on June 28-29 in Osaka. The head of the local police Takahisa Isida announced this on Thursday at a press conference, reports Kyodo News Agency.
According to him, in addition to the forces of Osaka Prefecture itself, reinforcements have already arrived from all over Japan, numbering almost 18 thousand people. In addition to the protection of the summit facilities and the residences of the leaders, the guards will monitor the closed areas and regulate traffic. It is expected that at the time of the G20 meeting in Osaka will be introduced serious restrictions on the operation of transport. “We urge local people in the days of the summit to abandon personal cars,” said Isida.
According to the organizers, about 30,000 people, including members of delegations and journalists, will come to the city during the meeting of the G20 leaders.
Osaka, with a population of almost 2.7 million people, is the third largest city in Japan after Tokyo and Yokohama. It is one of the most important business and cultural centers of the country, the informal capital of the South-Western part of the main Japanese island of Honshu.
