The giant ship ran aground and led to the collapse of the Suez Canal – the most important trade route along which, among other things, cargo with oil and gas is transported, Bloomberg reports.
The congestion formed after the container ship Ever Given ran aground caused at least a hundred vessels to “stall”. Bloomberg notes that this happened “by accident” since the ship deviated from the course. The reason for the deviation is a sudden strong wind, according to the Taiwanese company Evergreen Line.
According to the vessel operator Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, the crew is not in danger. According to the latest information, there are no casualties on the ship. The water area is not polluted. The Ever Given was sailing from China to Rotterdam (Netherlands).
