The head of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, called the death of footballer Diego Maradona a sudden tragedy and thanked him for the joy he has given to millions of football fans worldwide for many years.
“The news of Diego Maradona’s death, which came suddenly and unexpectedly, was a tragedy. This is the death of the greatest and perhaps unsurpassed talent of a football player. Thank you for the joy you have given to hundreds of millions of football fans and players around the world,” Sassoli wrote on Twitter.
The 1986 FIFA world Cup champion Maradona died at the age of 60. Maradona underwent brain surgery in early November and was released from the hospital on November 11, recovering from the operation.
