The Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has deprived Russia of the right to host the 2023 World Youth Championship due to the situation in Ukraine, according to the organization’s website.

The World Youth Championship was to be held from December 26 to January 5, 2023 in Novosibirsk and Omsk. The IIHF did not specify the decision regarding the right for Russia to host the Adult World Cup 2023, which was scheduled for May 5-21 in St. Petersburg.

“The decision to postpone the competition was made primarily out of concern for the health and well-being of all participating players, officials and fans. The IIHF Council also expressed deep concern about the safe freedom of movement of players and officials to, from and within Russia. The IIHF Council also took into account the violation by the Russian government of the Olympic Truce, adopted in December 2021 in the form of a resolution of the UN General Assembly,” the report says.
