The lessee of “Fortuna” refused to participate in the completion of Nord Stream 2

The lessee of the barge-pipe layer “Fortuna,” which is able to complete the “Nord stream-2,” does not accept and does not intend to take part in the work on laying the gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

Completion of the “Nord stream-2” is possible with the use of an anchor pipe layer accompanied by another vessel – with a dynamic positioning system that can hold the vessel at the desired point without anchors and mooring. One of the vessels that can complete the construction of the gas pipeline, until this moment, was called the anchor barge “Fortuna” of the company “Mezhregiontruboprovodstroy” (MRTS). The second candidate is a pipe layer “Akademik Chersky” with a dynamic positioning system.

As a representative of MRTS told, the company “does not intend to provide the pipe-laying barge “Fortuna” for the completion of the Russian export gas pipeline “Nord stream-2,” which has become a target of US sanctions.”
The MRTS also clarified that the company has never been the owner of the barge “Fortuna,” and leases it “under a bareboat Charter agreement for use in other projects.”
