In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, the coronavirus has been detected in more than 245 million people.
The total number of deaths due to coronavirus in the world has exceeded 5 million, according to calculations based on official statements of the authorities, as well as conclusions of experts and the media.
To date, 5,002,643 deaths have been registered worldwide due to a disease caused by a new infection, which is comparable to the population of Rome and Paris combined. In total, coronavirus has been detected in more than 245 million people since the beginning of the pandemic.
The first death became known on January 11, 2020. One million deaths were registered on September 28, two – less than four months later, on January 15, 2021. The mark of 3 million was overcome three months later; 4 million were registered on July 6.
The mortality rate of the new infection is 2.03%, the indicator has not risen above 3% for almost a year.
Most deaths were registered in the United States – over 740 thousand, which is about 1.6% of all those infected in the country. Brazil is in second place (more than 606 thousand deaths out of 21.8 million infected), India is in third place, where 456 thousand out of 34.2 million cases died.
Taking into account the population, mortality is highest in Peru, where 655 deaths occur for every 100 thousand inhabitants, as well as in European countries – Bosnia and Herzegovina (352), Bulgaria (343), and Northern Macedonia (340).
