The number of victims of the earthquake in Haiti has grown to almost 1.3 thousand people

The death toll resulting from the earthquake in Haiti has reached 1,297 people, reports Agence France-Presse with reference to the statement of the civil defense services of the country.

The number of victims has also increased: earlier it was reported about 2.8 thousand injured, now there are more than 5.7 thousand.

The American Agency for International Development (USAID) administrator, Samantha Power, said that the United States sent rescuers and equipment to the disaster area.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 occurred off the coast of Haiti on Saturday. Several countries have already expressed their readiness to help in eliminating the consequences.
