The Pentagon confirms the death of U.S. servicemen from the attack near the Kabul airport, the number of deaths among the U.S. military, and the total number of victims in the attack has not yet been reported.
Earlier, the media, citing representatives of the U.S. authorities, reported that four American marines were killed in an attack at the airport; three were wounded.
“We can confirm that some American servicemen were killed in today’s complex attack at the Kabul airport,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a statement. According to him, there are victims among the citizens of Afghanistan; there are also victims among the American military. The Pentagon expressed its condolences to the families and colleagues of the victims and all those injured, calling the attack monstrous.
The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan urged Americans to avoid the airport area and immediately leave the nearest territory.
Two explosions occurred on Thursday at the Kabul airport, one of them – not far from the Baron Hotel, where, according to media reports, foreigners, including citizens of Britain and the United States, were gathering.
