The Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN, Antje Leendertse, called on the Russian Federation to immediately stop the military operation in the Donbas and withdraw troops.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that he had decided on a special military operation in the Donbas. In a televised address to the Russians, he said that the circumstances “require decisive and immediate action from us, the People’s Republics of Donbas have appealed to Russia for help.” Russia is not taking actions against the people of Ukraine, but against the junta that seized power in Kyiv, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia said.

“We are meeting at a time of military escalation, which we have not experienced in Europe for generations,” Leendertse said at a UN Security Council meeting.

According to her, Berlin condemns the military operation of the Russian Federation in the strictest way.

“We call on all members of the Security Council and the UN to stand up for Ukraine and speak out against violations of international law,” she said.

“With this military operation, Russia violates the key principles of the UN Charter. We call on Russia to immediately cease its military action against Ukraine”, – said the permanent representative of Germany.

According to her, Russia “will have to pay an unprecedented price for its actions in Ukraine – politically, economically and morally.”

“France, Ukraine and Germany are ready for diplomacy, for another meeting in the Normandy format, for the summit that Ukraine has proposed,” she said.
