Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on oil and gas producing countries to increase production and supply of raw materials so that Russia could not use its resources to blackmail other countries.

Speaking via video link at an international conference in Doha, Qatar, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that countries like Qatar can contribute to the stabilization of Europe.

“You can do a lot to restore justice. The future of Europe depends on your efforts. I ask you to increase energy production so that everyone in Russia understands that no country can use them as weapons and blackmail the world,” the Ukrainian president said.

Zelenskiy also said that no country is immune from shocks associated with disruptions in food supplies due to Russia’s invasion of his country, since Ukraine is one of the world’s largest grain producers.

“World markets have not yet recovered from the effects of the pandemic, from the volatility of food prices. No one is immune from these shocks, and you cannot be insured if there is a physical shortage of food,” he said. “Russian troops are destroying acreage in Ukraine, disabling agricultural machinery.”

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has increased the concerns of governments of different countries about possible interruptions in energy supplies and has drawn particular attention to potential disruptions in food supplies.
